According to AREC's new-applicant page, you need 60 classroom hours, of which 30 must be in basic principles; AREC's Authorization to Test; and filing within 90 days of passing. According to AREC's FAQ, original licensure costs $50 for the license + $25 for the Recovery Fund; there is an 18-hour post-license course; and renewal is $60/$80 before September 30.

The Pearson salesperson exam has 80 national scored items and 30 Arkansas law scored items, with a scaled 70 required on each, for $75 combined. Separate portions cost $75 each, and both must be passed within six months. Authorization lasts one year. Residents wait for the AREC email before getting digital fingerprints ($36.25 to ASP). New salespersons complete 18 hours of named post-license courses by the end of month six after issuance. CE is 7 hours annually, starting on the second active renewal.

A broker license requires 24 months of experience within 48, the 45-hour Commission-developed Broker Pre-License Course within a 60-hour total, a scaled 70 on the unified 120-item Pearson exam, and a 30-hour post-license course. Louisiana's 90 hours, Mississippi's 60 hours with residency at application, Oklahoma's 90-hour provisional license, and Missouri's 48 hours plus MREP are useful comparisons, but Arkansas has its own rules: AREC authorizes you before Pearson, the 90-day filing deadline is in calendar days, residents wait for the fingerprint email, and the Recovery Fund fee is part of the original filing.

AREC's Education page sets the education requirements: salesperson 60 hours with 30 in principles (the certificate does not expire); broker 60 hours including the 45-hour Commission-developed course within 36 months; post-license 18/30 hours by the end of month six after issuance; and CE of 7 hours annually starting on the second active renewal. Pearson handbook #090400 (rev06/2026) sets the exam rules: $75 combined, scaled 70, 80 + 30 items for salespersons and 120 unified items for brokers. The Workforce Expansion Act may waive the initial application fee, and military members, veterans, and spouses may qualify for automatic licensure or expedited processing; contact AREC for details. Per AREC's FAQ, associate broker, executive broker, and principal broker are different roles: an associate broker has no statutory supervisory authority; an executive broker may review/sign contracts and supervise; and every office has one Principal Broker.
