The governing law is La. R.S. 37:1430 et seq. Pearson VUE administers the exam under Candidate Handbook #091900 (July 2024; exam table rev 01/2026) at pearsonvue.com/us/en/la/realestate.html, (877) 619-2096. According to the LREC Become Licensed — Salesperson and Pre-licensing Education pages, you need ninety (90) hours of LREC-approved education, with no substitution for the 30-hour portion covering Louisiana Real Estate License Law, Commission Rules/Regulations, Law of Agency, and Civil Law pertaining to real estate. Chapter 53 names this salesperson course Real Estate 101. Texas's 180-hour or Mississippi's 60-hour courses do not satisfy this requirement.

Pearson gives 80 national items in 150 minutes and 55 Louisiana items in 90 minutes, and you need a scaled 70 on each. The combined 240-minute exam costs $81 for the first attempt (LARESCO1; $96 for a repeat) and includes 10–15 pretest items. If you fail one section, you retake only that section; do not retake a passed portion during the one-year authorization. Per the LREC FAQ, IdentoGO Livescan costs $60.75. E&O is mandatory before an active license is issued (§1466). The original salesperson license is $45 under §1443; the FAQ lists renewal totals of $77 with third-party E&O or $219 with the LREC group policy. You must complete a 45-hour post-license course with an exam within 180 days, and 12 hours of CE by December 31, including the 2026 topic Transparency, Technology, and Trust.

Brokers need an additional 150 hours (the salesperson 90 does not count) through Real Estate 201, 202, and 203; four years licensed with two immediately preceding; a scaled 75 on the Pearson exam; and new IdentoGO fingerprints even when upgrading. Real Estate 202 is the same 30-hour civil-law requirement, and Real Estate 203 is Broker Responsibilities. In 2026, brokers also take Broker Leadership & Compliance within the same 12 CE hours. Neighboring states' rules, such as Texas's 180 hours, Mississippi's 60 hours with PSI, and Arkansas's 60 hours with 30 in principles, do not apply here. Lesion beyond moiety, redhibition, usufruct, and community property are scored exam topics specific to Louisiana, not trivia.
