What to know first

Indiana does not issue a salesperson license. The entry credential is a broker license. Schools and blogs that still print "Indiana salesperson" are describing a title the Indiana Real Estate Commission retired. IC 25-34.1-3-4.1 and the Pearson VUE Indiana Real Estate Candidate Handbook (series 091500, March 2025; Pearson landing page last updated August 27, 2026) want a 90-hour Commission-approved prelicensing course, then the broker examination through Pearson VUE — not PSI. Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan sit PSI. Indiana sits Pearson. Booking a PSI center in Hammond because you live near Chicago will not give you an Indiana score. Pearson replaced PSI as Indiana's exam vendor effective March 3, 2025. Outlines in the current bulletin are effective March 1, 2025.

Broker New Applicants: complete the 90-hour pre-licensing course. Both parts of the exam (national and state) must be taken and passed within one (1) year of the date that the pre-licensing course was completed. The handbook Examination Summary Table is the item-count document: Real Estate Broker, series ReIN-Broker, 240 minutes, 145 total questions, passing score scaled 75, exam fee $55. National/general is 80 scored items plus 5 pretest. Indiana state is 50 scored items plus five to ten (5–10) pretest. Combined 145 is 80 + 5 + 50 + 10 when the state pretest band is at the top of that range. Endorsement candidates with a current out-of-state credential sit ReIN-BrokerEnd only: 60 questions, 90 minutes, scaled 75, still $55, and the 90-hour course is not required; PLA approval is required before that state exam. Fingerprints are after the PLA application, not before. IdentoGO, using the service code PLA emails after the file is on MyLicense One. A Criminal Background Check completed before the application date is invalid — you cannot print "just in case" the week you start class. After issuance, 876 IAC 7-4-2 requires thirty (30) hours of Commission-approved postlicensing education during the first two years after the license was issued. That 30 fully satisfies CE for two continuing-education years (the CE year of initial licensure does not count). After that, 876 IAC 7-5-1 wants twelve (12) hours per continuing-education year from July 1 to June 30. Licenses renew every three years at $60. Kentucky still uses salesperson. Ohio uses salesperson with a broker-signed application before the exam. Illinois uses managing broker as the supervising title on a broker-entry base (Illinois also retired salesperson). Booking PSI

Indiana is Pearson VUE as of March 3, 2025. Neighbor states are PSI. The score will not transfer. Hammond is not a shortcut into an Illinois PSI seat that PLA will honor.
Fingerprinting before you apply

PLA throws out a CBC dated before the application date. Wait for the IdentoGO service-code email. "Just in case" prints during the 90-hour course are how this fuse is blown.
Filing as a salesperson

That license does not exist. Entry is broker. Managing broker is a later designation on a broker base, not a salesperson upgrade.
Letting the 90-hour course age past one year before both Pearson portions are passed

Handbook: both parts within one year of course completion. Then one year from passing to finish PLA licensure. Two clocks.
Skipping 30-hour postlicensing because "I already did 90"

876 IAC 7-4-2: 30 hours in the first two years or IC 25-1-4 action. The 90 is prelicense. The 30 is postlicense (6+6+10+5+1+2) and it is what covers your first two CE years.
Inventing a second Pearson series code for managing broker

PLA and the handbook table both point at ReIN-Broker — the same 145-question / $55 paper — plus a 24-hour course and three years. It is not "no exam" and it is not a new series.
Treating scaled 75 as 75 of 80 or as Oklahoma's 70%

Indiana reports a scaled 75. Oklahoma salesperson is 70% scaled. Maine is scaled 75 on 80/40. Do not import those cuts. Failures see a numeric scaled score; passes see Pass.
Renewing inactive to skip CE, then expecting to activate without a review

Inactive and referral skip CE. Activation as part of a reassignment first moves you to referral, then Commission staff review eligibility and may require CE. Unassigned still owes CE.

Does Indiana issue a salesperson license?: No. The official entry title is broker (IC 25-34.1). Managing broker is a later designation (24-hour course plus three years plus the Pearson broker exam). This page uses the salesperson URL slot so the path matches the rest of the site; the credential name is not faked.
Is the exam PSI?: No. Indiana uses Pearson VUE, handbook series 091500, vendor switch March 3, 2025. Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan use PSI. Booking PSI will not produce an Indiana score. Walk-ins are not available. OnVUE is not this product.
What is the passing score and the sitting?: Scaled 75 on ReIN-Broker: 145 questions, 240 minutes, $55. National 80 scored + 5 pretest; state 50 scored + 5–10 pretest. Endorsement is ReIN-BrokerEnd: 60 questions, 90 minutes, $55. The reported pass is not a raw percent and not Iowa's 56/28.
How many prelicense hours?: Ninety hours of Commission-approved broker prelicensing. Both Pearson portions within one year of course completion. After issuance, 30 hours of named postlicensing in the first two years (876 IAC 7-4).
When do I fingerprint?: After the PLA application is on file. Wait for the IdentoGO service-code email. A CBC completed before the application date is invalid. Cited package $38.20 — pay the live cart.

Is there a second exam for managing broker?: PLA: 24-hour managing-broker course, three years of active Indiana broker licensure, and pass an examination through Pearson VUE — "This is the Broker Exam." Handbook table lists Real Estate Managing Broker as ReIN-Broker, 145 questions, 240 minutes, $55. It is not a new series code. It is also not "no exam."
What CE applies after I am licensed?: First two years: 30-hour postlicensing (6 transactions, 6 financing, 10 business planning, 5 negotiating, 1 cultural diversity/fair housing, 2 construction). That 30 satisfies two CE years; the CE year of initial licensure does not count. After that: 12 hours every July 1–June 30. Active and unassigned must complete CE to renew; inactive and referral do not. Managing brokers: 4 of the 12 must be managing-broker CE. Renewal $60 every three years. Current example cycle on the PLA page runs through June 30, 2026.
Can I apply as a nonresident?: Yes. Endorsement sits the 60-question state paper after Commission review. Original-by-exam nonresidents take the full 145 after the 90-hour course. SSN is mandatory. Abandoned applications die at one year.
Do I need a sponsoring broker to get the license issued?: Not for unassigned status. Active or referral requires managing-broker or company information, and the proposed employer must approve. You cannot practice unassigned as if you were a Florida active sales associate.
What if my license expires?: Expired <3 years: $60 renewal on the PLA table. Expired 3–8 years: 36 hours of CE plus ReIN-BrokerEnd (state only) after a PLA letter. Expired 9 or more years: 90-hour course and full ReIN-Broker. Reinstatement fee expired >3 years is $120 on the live table.
