You apply and renew in MiPLUS (michigan.gov/miplus). The governing law is Article 25 of 1980 PA 299, MCL 339.2501 et seq., and R 339.22203. PSI delivers the exam under the Candidate Information Bulletin at test-takers.psiexams.com/mire ((855) 579-4635; copyright 2026, updated 7/6/2026). The salesperson licensing guide (revision date 1/26/2026) sets the hour requirement: 40 hours including 4 in civil rights, and you must file in MiPLUS and upload the certificate before testing. MCL 339.2504(2) sets the 36-month window. A neighboring state's 60-hour course does not satisfy the 40.
The salesperson exam is one combined PSI exam of 115 items in 180 minutes at 70% (raw 80), $79 per attempt, with results reported as pass/fail only. The outline divides it into 80 national and 35 Michigan items, but the bulletin does not publish separate passing scores. Exam results are valid one year. The 1/26/2026 guides list no fingerprint requirement. Your employing broker approves you in MiPLUS. Licenses renew every 3 years for $78, with 18 hours of CE including 2 legal + 1 fair housing hours per year of the cycle; keep evidence 4 years.
Individual brokers need 90 hours, including 9 in civil rights, in addition to the salesperson 40; 3 years of full-time related experience; the PSI exam (115 items/120 points/210 min at 75%, raw 90), taken without pre-approval; a $143 MiPLUS application; and a physical Michigan business address. MCL 339.2505(2) bars a new broker who has been convicted of embezzlement or misappropriation of funds. Associate broker is a separate license held under a company. For comparison, Ohio requires 120 hours, Indiana 90, and Illinois 75. Michigan's requirements are its own: the 40 includes 4 civil-rights hours, salespersons must file in MiPLUS before testing, the passing score is combined, and Elliott-Larsen, the Land Division Act, and Right to Farm are scored items.
