The Maryland Real Estate Commission is at 100 S. Charles Street, Tower I, Baltimore, MD 21201. Phone (410) 230-6200. Walk-in assistance is not available; appointments are Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–4 p.m., and in-person payments are by check or money order. Statute: Business Occupations and Professions Article, Title 17, and COMAR 09.11. PSI delivers the exam under Candidate Information Bulletin 529 (test-takers.psiexams.com/mdre; (855) 744-0318; Updated 8/15/2024). The MREC Licensing FAQs set the hour requirements: 60 hours of prelicensing with an approved provider, then PSI; and a 135-hour broker course after three consecutive active years with no breaks. A Pennsylvania 75-hour license qualifies through reciprocity, not as a substitute for the 60 hours.

PSI gives 80 national items in 90 minutes (pass 56) and 30 Maryland items in 30 minutes (pass 21) at $44 per registration. Pass both portions within 1 year of course completion, and apply within one year of passing. The original salesperson license is $98, including the $20 Guaranty Fund; renewal is $78. MREC lists no fingerprint fee. You have 3 years to affiliate while inactive, and a license expired more than 3 years cannot be reinstated by paying back fees. CE is 15 named hours, which must be completed 30 days before renewal as of October 1, 2024. Salespersons first licensed after October 1, 2023 take contracts, agency, and practice courses at first renewal that later cycles do not use. NAR ethics is not Maryland ethics.

A broker license requires three consecutive active years immediately prior (inactive status, late renewal, or suspension resets the count), 135 hours, the PSI exam (75 items/80 points/90 min, pass 56, plus 40 items/30 min, pass 28), a credit report, $211 original including the $20 GF, and an application made by contacting the Commission. An associate broker takes the same 135 hours and works under a broker, for $143. Virginia's 60 hours, Delaware's 99, and D.C.'s 60 are shown for comparison only. Maryland has its own requirements: the school uploads your eligibility, the Guaranty Fund is included in the $98, PIFHA is tested, and the three years must be consecutive.
