The Mass.gov prepare page is the authoritative source on requirements: 40 hours, three endorsements, then the exam. Brokers add 40 hours, three years at 25 hours/week, and the original $5,000 bond. Rhode Island's 45-hour course counts only through reciprocity; it does not replace the Massachusetts 40.

PSI gives 80 general items in 150 minutes (pass 56) and 40 Massachusetts items in 90 minutes (pass 28), with 70% required on each. The Mass.gov salesperson candidate fee is $85; the CIB splits that into $31 and $54. You must be approved in eLIPSE before you schedule. Per the CIB, PSI does not print licenses on site; your digital license is available 24 hours after you pay in eLIPSE. The Mass.gov how-to page still mentions printing at the testing center, but that is outdated. Your license expires on your birthday, two or three years out. You need 12 hours of CE before renewing active, and renewal is $103. Mass.gov lists no fingerprint fee; the CORI is the background check.

Brokers need 40 additional hours, three years at 25 hours/week, the original $5,000 bond, and a passing PSI score (75 items/80 points/150 min at 70% of 80 points, plus 40 items/90 min). The broker fee is $106, and renewal is $142. Rules from nearby states, such as Virginia's recovery fund, Rhode Island's 45 hours, and Connecticut's May 31 even-year expiration, do not apply here. Key Massachusetts rules: classmates may not endorse you, only brokers post a bond, and your license expires on your birthday.
