The Connecticut Real Estate Commission operates within the Department of Consumer Protection, License Services Division, at 450 Columbus Boulevard, Suite 901, Hartford, CT 06103. Email [email protected]. DCP's salesperson Initial/Exam page requires the 60-hour Real Estate Principles and Practices course, age 18, and an $80 application before you take the PSI exam. You do not need broker supervision to take the exam. The PSI Connecticut Real Estate Candidate Information Bulletin (updated 11/13/2025) at test-takers.psiexams.com/ctre, (855) 746-8171, lists a $59 first sitting for both portions and a $51 retake. The salesperson exam is 80 questions in 120 minutes plus 35 in 45 minutes, at 70%; the broker exam is a 75-question/80-point national portion plus a 45-question/40-point state portion, at 75%, in 180 minutes. Remote proctoring has been available since 5/14/25. You have unlimited attempts for one year from eligibility, then two years from the last passed portion to activate.

Activation costs $590.00 under a CT licensed broker (the reciprocal salesperson fees show this as $570 + $20 Guaranty Fund). Salesperson licenses expire May 31 of every even-numbered year, and 12 hours of CE (3-hour 2028 CT REAL ESTATE LICENSE LAW + 9 elective) are due February 28. Renewal is $578; the late fee is $57. Broker licenses expire November 30 of even years ($758 / late $75) and require three years, 1,500 hours and four transactions, and 60+15+15+30 hours of education (or 20 transactions). For comparison, Massachusetts requires 40 hours, Rhode Island 45, and New York 77. Connecticut requires 60 hours, DCP approval before PSI, $590 to activate, and renewal every May 31 of even years.
