Maine does not issue a salesperson license. Entry is sales agent (§ 13200): a two-year non-renewable apprentice hanging, affiliated with a licensed agency under a designated broker. Associate broker (§ 13199) is the first renewable credential. Designated broker is a further 55-hour course after two years of associate-broker experience within five.

Prelicense is a named 55-hour Sales Agent Course, 75% course pass, three quizzes (minimum 60 questions total) plus an 80-question final, live 90% attendance, outline percentages frozen on the Commission’s 2013/2014 QE PDF (product knowledge 28%, contracts 14%, Commission 13%, agency 13%). Pearson then seats 80 national items in 2.5 hours and 40 Maine-law items in 1.5 hours at a scaled 75, $88, both parts inside one year of the course-completion date on the original certificate you bring to the center. Apply within one year of passing the entire exam, not the same day — scores must transmit overnight. Original is $100 application/license plus $21 criminal-records check. The $85 Maine Law exam (50 scored, 1.5 hours) is a different paper used for reciprocity and for associate-broker / broker reinstatement; it does not satisfy the sales-agent law portion.

The sales-agent license cannot be renewed. Upgrade to associate broker with two years of active affiliation, a 60-hour course at 75%, a Documented Field Experience Form, and a core course, filed no more than 30 days before the sales-agent expiration and within five years of original issuance. Associate broker / broker CE is 21 hours including the current core, biennial, $100, $50 late inside 90 days; after 90 days the Maine Law exam and a new application.
