Handbook PDF 092200, outlines #092202 | 09/2025; the national outline is effective April 1, 2025, and the state outline is effective September 14, 2023 (Pearson page last updated 2026-08-10). According to the AREC salesperson page, you need 40 hours, must be 19, and must apply within six months. The AREC exam page still lists $100, but the handbook lists $115, which is the current exam fee.
Pearson gives four hours for both portions together, with a scaled passing score of 75. If you fail one portion, you retake both. Walk-ins are not available. Testing is weekly in Anchorage, semi-monthly in Fairbanks, and quarterly in Juneau; special sites cost $50 more (AREC exam page). Form #08-4179 costs $370 in State fees, plus E&O and affiliation with a broker. Licenses expire January 31 of even-numbered years. The 30 hours of PLE in year one are separate from the 20-hour CE cycle.
A broker must be 22 and needs 30 specified hours, 36 months of experience within 60, and a 60-item Alaska law portion. AS 08.88.171(b) still says 24 months within 36 for associate brokers, but form #08-4160 requires 36 within 60. Brokers need a trust account and an Alaska office; associate brokers do not. Alaska's requirements differ from other states: the minimum age is 19, the state portion tests the Landlord Tenant Act, and you cannot keep a passed national score if you fail the state portion.
